Some of our most frequently asked questions below.

 What is airbrush tanning? ☼

An airbrush tan technician uses a spray gun to apply a tanning solution (DHA) to the client's body.  The spray gun is used to ensure consistent, accurate solution application.  The spray gun is attached to an air compressor.  The application is easy and keeps areas such as ankles and wrists evenly tanned with out having a hard line.

☼ I am under 18, can I still get an airbrush tan? ☼

Yes, a parent or guardian must be present. If they can not be present, they must fill out form and you can bring to your appointment.

☼ Is it safe? ☼

Yes, sunless tanning is a safe and proven method of obtaining a tan.  As with any personal product, sensitivity can occur but is very rare.  If an individual has ever had any adverse effects utilizing self tanning products or moisturizers, they may experience a similar effect with spray tanning.  Our recommendation for any sensitive client is to spray a test patch first to gauge how their skin will react.

☼ I am wanting an airbrush tan for my wedding, I've never been to Bronze515. Would one tan be ok? ☼

At Bronze515 we highly recommend those who have never been to Bronze515 and or received an airbrush tan, to do a trial tan. The trial tan should be done at least 3-4 weeks or more before wedding and the wedding spray 2 days prior. We usually tell clients for big events like senior pictures, weddings, prom, etc this is a good option as well.

☼ Can I receive an airbrush tan if I am pregnant? ☼

DHA is FDA approved and only penetrates the outermost layer of the skin. These products actually stain the skin rather than absorb into the bloodstream. The risks have not been scientifically tested, but the sugar and mineral based ingredients are an indication that there are little or no risks involved.  However, we do recommend that you consult with your physician first.

☼ What is DHA? ☼

DHA or Dihydroxiacetone is derived from vegetable origin or sugar beets and has been FDA approved for topical application and used for tanning creams since the 1960's.  DHA has also been used in cosmetics for decades.  When DHA comes in contact with the amino acids of the skin, it creates a natural reaction that causes the skin to appear tanned.  The solution we use is only the highest quality Eco Certified DHA, which is eco compliant to use in our solution making process.

☼ What makes the solution we use great? ☼

The solutions we use are made with our unique triple action bronzers which activate on different days. How does this work? The bronzer activates on days 1-2, followed by our Eco Certified DHA which activates on days 2-5, then our Eco Friendly proprietary blend activates on day 4-8 or longer! Solutions produce a beautiful tan that can last up to 8-10 days or longer!

☼ Will I turn orange? ☼

NO WAY! Two factors will tint the skin orange.  (1) an inexpensive DHA is used in the sunless solution.  Here is where quality really matters.  I use only high quality ECO COMPLIANT DHA products.  DHA also needs to have a perfect balance with all other ingredients in the sunless solution you are spraying. (2) A technician who has not been trained in the art of color matching.  Fair skinned clients can not use a high level of DHA.  Too much DHA on the wrong skin type will give the illusion of a fake tan or an orange tint.  The darker the skin, the higher the level of DHA that can be sprayed.

☼ Does an airbrush tan protect me from the sun? ☼

No! Never and No Way!! Airbrush tanning DOES NOT protect the skin from the sun.  We recommend everyone use sunscreen on a daily basis and especially when you will be out in the sun.

☼ How long does a airbrush tan last? ☼

Depending on your skin type, solutions will produce a tan that lasts between 5 to 10 days. Like a suntan, the sunless tan will fade gradually as your skin exfoliates.  However, you can extend the life of your tan by using moisturizers daily.  Prior to getting a sunless tan your skin should be clean and exfoliated.  Taking care of your skin both before and after the sunless tanning process will alleviate any uneven fading.

☼ How often can you get a sunless tan? ☼

Tanning can be performed every 7-10 days if desired. We recommend the client's skin be exfoliated of any prior airbrush tan prior to getting a new sunless tan. Airbrush tanning back to back on the same day is not advised, as it does not give the DHA time to set between between tans.  DHA can be very drying to the skin and cause uneven fading or freckling as the tan fades when too much DHA is sprayed on the skin over a short time frame.

☼ How many times does a person need to airbrush tan to achieve the color they want? ☼

Everyone's skin type and color is unique.  A person will be tan after just one sunless session, but they may want to up the level of DHA being used if they would like to achieve a darker tan on their next sunless session. ONLY ONE TAN IS RECOMMENDED EVERY 7-10 DAYS OR SO. DOING MULTIPLE SPRAY TANS WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF EACH OTHER IS NOT RECOMMENDED. If you are planning a tan for vacation best to do tan day before you leave.

☼ Will airbrush tanning work on fair skinned people? ☼

YES! We have very satisfied customers who are very fair skinned. We customize each color to match your desired level of tan!

☼ What should a client wear for their sunless session? ☼

This is an individual choice.  Clients can wear a bikini, swimsuit, bra and underwear, disposable undergarments or tan in the buff.  It is entirely up to the technician and the client.  The FDA does recommend wearing disposable underwear for a sunless session (these are available at Bronze515).

☼ How does a client prepare for a sunless session? ☼

See our instructions page for a breakdown!

☼ How about shaving with a sunless tan? ☼

A sharp, clean razor with a lubricating product is best.  Avoid hair removal products and harsh soaps.  Anti acne, anti aging and makeup removal products can cause the tan to fade.  Avoid exfoliating scrubs, facial masks and toners containing alcohol.  Swimming in a chlorinated pool or hot tub can cause the tan to fade prematurely.  A thick, rich application of sunblock (Sunbum) prior to swimming may reduce fading.
